International Coastal Clean-up Day was established by the Ocean Conservancy. Now, each year, it is scheduled to be celebrated on the third Saturday of the month of September. The trash in the water impacts the planet on many levels, including harming Marine life, wildlife, humans, and impacting the livelihood of those who work on the ocean. Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal, We Can Trust (NGO), Tuticorin Municipal Corporation and Shipping Associations & Organizations jointly hosted a major Volunteer Coastal Clean-Up event at Tuticorin - Vivekanandha Nagar, Threaspuram Beach on 16th September 2023 during “International Coastal Clean-Up Day”. As part of DBGT initiatives, Nearly 70 teammates of DBGT along with Contract Employees, came together to collect and remove the Trashes & Garbage’s from the Beach which with an impressive efforts of the Volunteers where more than 5 Nos of Corporation Trucks have been Loaded with Garbage’s and removed from the Beach, where at least 80% of that being composed of Plastic materials, Plastics bags, waste trashes especially which was last very long time in the ocean. The dedication and commitment of DBGT towards Environment and Ocean Conservancy resulted to works to help protect the ocean from the challenges it faces every year. An high-profile delegation from the Port of Colombo for business promotion visit to the Port of Tuticorin, India. The delegation headed by Mr. Keith D. Bernard - Chairman of Sri Lankan Ports Authority (SLPA), included representatives from SLPA, South Asia Gateway Terminals, Colombo International Container Terminals and the International West Container Terminal. The Port & Terminal Visit was organized by Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal Private Limited, by taking the PoC officials for Terminal Visit to present them the wider view about the existing facilities of VOC Port Authority & Container Terminals of DBGT. VOC Port Authority organized a session at Admin board room, Chaired by Shri. Bimal Kumar Jha, Chairperson (In charge) of VOCPA. The high profiled meeting were also attended by HOD’s of VOC Port Authority, and HOD’s of SLPA including Traffic Manager – Shri. R. Prabhakar. Then the delegation participated in the trade interactive session held on 11th July - Tuticorin, aimed at establishing a robust networking system between the Port of Colombo and Tuticorin. The session garnered attendance including trade fraternity from Tuticorin and hinterlands and the representative were facilitated by our hod’s of BDGT. Discussions between the POC delegation and the VOC Port Authority in Tuticorin covered key points including measures to implement competitive rates, facilitation for priority berthing for Tuticorin- Colombo relativity.
DBGT surpassed its unique feat of 3 million TEUs since inception. The feat was achieved while handling MV. FSL KELANG, prior completing on 17th November 2022. The dedication and effortless efficiency of the workforce were commendable. The Management congratulated the efficient efforts of the staffs and everyone who has put their focus towards the growth of DBGT. DBGT is once again pleased and thankful to the China-India II Service operators WAN HAI & IAL for the recommencement of the CI2 Service at DBGT after a temporary suspension. DBGT welcomed MV. DELAWARE TRADER on 16th November 2022, arrived from Nhava Sheva and bound to Port Klang – North Port. Deputy Chairman – VOC Port Authority – Tuticorin presided the welcome ceremony at DBGT premises and warmly congratulated the Agents for their strenuous efforts to resume the service, which is the need of the hour. The operators have deployed 6 vessels on 30 days round trip voyages connecting QINGDAO / SHANGHAI / NINGBO / PORT KLANG - NORTH PORT / COCHIN / NHAVA SHEVA / TUTICORIN (NEW TUTICORIN) / PORT KLANG - NORTH PORT / QINGDAO. The weekly service is a boon to reliable hinterlands to fulfill the gap of non-existence of direct call to Far East & Chinese Ports from Tuticorin Port.
To make the Children’s Day more memorable, DBGT celebrated “Children Fest” on 12th of November 2022 at Gamesville Sports Academy -Tuticorin. The sportive event was well participated by the kids with full energy and showed up their skills with much joy. The fun filled event brought the kids together to find new cheerful bonding in this busy World.
DBGT proudly accommodates MV. MSS GALENA with LOA 147m, on 11th November 2022 arrived from Male. The vessel is being operated by Maldives State Shipping (MSS) owned by State Trading Organization (STO), a successful state-owned public company of Maldives. The service is handled by Seahorse Ship Agencies Pvt. Ltd.- Tuticorin at VOC Port. The service is expected to call Tuticorin on weekly basis to fulfill the gap of non-existence of direct call to Male/Maldives. MV. MSS GALENA has sailed to Colombo as next port call, and thereafter to proceed further to Male – Maldives, the final destination. Heartily congratulated by Traffic Manager – VOC Port Authority – Tuticorin, wished them all great success to continuously serve the Trade with more competitive products that suits the need of the hour.
DBGT received an accolade from ICCI under Terminal Appreciation Award on 28th October 2022.
As part of Annual Marathon 2022 / Corporate Social Responsibility initiative an awareness rally was organized by DBGT employees on 29th September 2022 as a part of spreading awareness to the general public. The chief guest for the day was Dr. L. Balaji Saravanan Superintendent of Police and Shri. Sathiyaraj, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin district. Shri. Sathiyaraj made his presence to flag off the rally and created initiative in spreading an awareness program to the general public. The chief guest and Mr.Senthilkumar Subramanian CEO, DBGT flagged off the rally from St. Mary’s Boys school Bus Stop to Rajaji Park at 07.45 am and covered a distance of 1.5 kilometer. Simultaneously the employees distributed awareness pamphlets to the public and educated the public through placards and announcements throughout the rally on Road Safety and Drug Abuse.
All India Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded DBGT as Best International Container Terminal on 27th September 2022.
On 2nd September 2022, Dakshin Bharath Gateway Terminal Pvt.Ltd organized a training program with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to regulate and ensure the staffs about the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. Safety department took initiative in coordinating the training awareness program among DBGT employees. The training program was given by Mr. S. Pandiyaraja Joint Director (Authorized Officer) – FSSAI.
On behalf of Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port and V.O. Chidambaranar Port, CEO of DBGT had attended the Maritime PPP Conclave and shared his valuable insights and experience on the topic “Container Handling Scenarios” on 22 July 2022.
DBGT has been awarded “Container Handling Terminal of the Year”, based on the growth during 13th South East CEO Conclave & Awards 2022 ceremony held on 24th June 2022 - Friday at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai.
DBGT handled MV. MSC PETRA with LOA 299.95m the longest container vessel ever handled in the history of VOC Port. The ADHOC call was operated by MSC Agency (India) Pvt. Ltd. MSC PETRA. The vessel berthed at DBGT on 13.05.2022 @ 08.15 Hrs, at Tuticorin prior departing to Singapore on 14.05.2022 @ 0900 Hrs. DBGT along with MSC Agency (India) Pvt. Ltd., welcomed the ADHOC Vessel in style. The Tuticorin Trade fraternity was also a part of this welcome ceremony and was later flagged off by Mr. Bimal Kumar Jha – Deputy Chairman, VOC Port Authority.

MSC VIDHI with load capacity of about 5770 TEU’s, berthed on 20th March 2022-DBGT (VOCPA premises) from Port Louis / Mauritius, The ADHOC call vessel with LOA 277.3m & Arrival Draught of 12.5m, departed to Colombo on 21st Mar 2022 with departure draft of 13.6m being operated by MSC Agency (India) Pvt. Ltd. DBGT organized an event and the welcome ceremony was presided over by Shri. T. K. Ramachandran – IAS – Chairman of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Shri. Bimal Kumar Jha – Deputy Chairman, VOC Port Authority, Shri. Prabakar – Traffic Manager, VOC Port Authority, Shri. Benny George – General Manager - MSC Agency (India) Pvt. Ltd. – Tuticorin.
As part of International women’s day, DBGT organized a training programme on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment” at workplace on 07th March 2022. DBGT family, celebrated International Women’s Day on 08th March 2022 as a part to cherish the womanhood.
DBGT has taken initiative by giving importance towards Go Green and created an awareness among the employees within the organization. As a part of it plantation drive was held on 18th Feb 2022 which could reduce air pollution and environmental toxins and help in decreasing the number of pollutants released to the environment.
DBGT has achieved a milestone of 2 million TEUs on 17th March 2021, through its enduring, enhanced customer service and productivity levels amidst the challenges faced by global pandemic COVID -19. DBGT stands at the forefront of technological advancements with the prevalence of higher productivity levels.
